Independent of ski lift opening hours, no stress and hurly-burly, no waiting times at the lift station - these are only a few advantages of ski mountaineering and ski touring. These aspects are, besides the intense nature experience, more than a reason for the popularity of this trend sport. Those who want to feel more than pleasure and happiness can also participate in competitions and measure themselves with the best athletes in the world. Viehhofen is the location where the Austrian National Championships in skimountaineering are held. The competition takes place in the beginning of december and the awards ceremony as well as the after-party are held here, at Hotel Oberwirt!
The hardest touring ski race annually takes place in Saalbach - the "MOUNTAIN ATTACK". About 1000 participants from all over the world make their way up the mountain a phenomenal spectacle. The next "ATTACK" will be carried out in January, when 6 summits and 3,008 metres in altitude are to be defeated.
